Raa Valhi – The knife Used for cutting the flower bud by the palm sap collector.
Raa Bandhi – Traditional Maldivian toddy collecting pot.
Toddy (Raa) is the sap of palm trees used as a beverage. To collect palm sap, the flower bud is cut at the tip before it blossoms and a pot (Raa Bandhi) is hung to collect the sap. This tradition method of collecting Toddy is slowly becoming a rare scene in Maldives but still we have a few man working in the cultural way specially in Fuvahmulah City. The tender sap is a sweet non-alcoholic thrist quencher which tastes like nectar in summer heat. It later matures into Toddy.
